Glowing tulips

24th March 2024

During a recent visit to a private home, I spotted a beautiful vase of home-grown tulips on a windowsill. They were early into flower, but it was the back-lighting which emphasised their colour tones and beauty, thus arousing my interest in taking a picture. They seemed to be colour-rich goblets of fire and I simply had to capture this evocative scene. Fortunately, I had my Leica CL with me.

Still fitted with my standard winter lens, a Sigma Contemporary 18-50 mm zoom lens, with a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8, it was more than adequate for this challenging task.

With little room for manoeuvre, I wanted to capture a hint of location, so that we had a visual reminder of our visit Such clues can be valuable reminders in later years.

As I am currently without access to Adobe Lightroom, the file was transferred to my Galaxy tablet and processed in Snapseed which I have recently been learning. I have been amazed by the scope of this small App, and its ease of use. For example, in a few seconds I had corrected the distortion of the window frames and removed intrusive highlights in the background. Even local area adjustments are possible. I hope you will enjoy the resulting picture.
