Book Review: Into the Mystery - Camera in the Wild (2021)
03rd March 2021

Quite by chance I was invited to review a new large-format book on landscape photography. While I am not a specialist landscape photographer, in the sense that it forms a major part of my work, I was moved by the spiritual approach the author Rob Beighton, described. He writes compellingly about the emotional aspect of the genre and explains how dyslexia, in childhood, led to his deep-rooted love of the natural world, initially on his home patch in the English Peak District.
The book is based on a series of sponsored illustrated lectures he gave to audiences of photographers during the 1980s and 1990s. The illustrations are magnificent, notwithstanding the fact that most are scanned from film. Nowadays, he uses digital media. The whole project was brought together by the author who undertook the design, origination, writing and photography.
