A professional with a DSLR turned to me after one shot to remark on my quiet shutter. "Oh, it's a Leica!". To me it is rather noisier than my old M3, but the M8 does have a faster top speed of 1/8000 second. Here is a full frame taken with my favourite medium telephoto lens. It is successful because of the colourful smoke trails which add to the drama and composition. I had merely seconds to see this picture and shoot it before both animals moved on to fresh activities. Purists may look critically at the technical qualities of what is, essentially, a 'grab' shot. However the best animal pictures are the natural ones where you sometimes have to accept small compromises. You cannot stage manage shots like this portrait of two pets.
