New freelance feature in FPME reported with a tear-sheet

04th August 2008
Freelance writers and photographers frequently suffer rejection of their latest work or proposals. It is an inevitable fact of life. Matching supply with demand is tricky at the best of times: there are so many factors at work. Unfortunately, some novices soon give up but the determined can and do succeed.

"Bouncing Back" draws on over forty five years experience and uses a particularly rewarding example of the riches which can be reached after apparent adversity. A genuinely unjustified rejection inspired me to focus on an even more lucrative potential market, namely YOU magazine. I was convinced that my illustrated story on the late Roald Dahl merited publication at a higher level. It is ironic to reflect that without suffering that earlier rejection, I would probably never had gained such valuable experience. Interestingly, it was not a 'one-off' event. The editor was well pleased and went on to commission several more features from me which added to my portfolio.

Sadly, FPME has ceased publication - a casualty of the recession. However, a copy of the tear-sheet of my recent FPME feature appears in my Latest features page.
